A secondary school has had to send students home after a case of Covid-19 was confirmed.

The John Wallis Academy in Ashford had until now avoided any student cases, with one previous case being found amongst the staff body.

However the school sent out a letter upon the return of students from half term, notifying parents a case had been found.

Head teacher Damian McBeath said: "A small number of children who have been in close contact with the student will have received an individual letter and have been directed to isolate until Friday, November 6, a period of 14 days since any potential contact has passed.

"To all other pupils and students, the school remains open and your child should continue to attend unless they are unwell."

It is the latest school in the Ashford Borough to confirm a case, with Repton Manor Primary School, Victoria Road Primary School, The Wye School, Homewood School and many others also affected.
