Work to fix Ashford’s damaged shared spaced could start this September.

Councillors announced plans to split the repair work in two at this week's joint transportation meeting.

Maintenance works in Elwick Road and Forge Lane will be treated as a separate project from the repairs in Bank Street, which are expected to start later this year.

As well as fixing the cracked pavements, the damaged flume pavement sculpture will be mended.

KCC highway manager Toby Howe said: “The concentration is around the right hand side of Bank Street, as that is where there have been the main issues.

“Between March and May this year, we are looking at alternative drainage channels and will be engaging with a contractor to carry out the work.

“We anticipate carrying out repair works after the summer holidays so that we minimise the impact on local businesses."
