A stunning Kent street mural has won a global award.

Ashford’s ‘Flamboyant Fawn’ has been voted as the best street art of March 2023 on a leading street art platform.

The impressive painting portrays a deer covered in roses standing alongside a pheasant in a field of orange and yellow.

Painted by artist Curtis Hylton on the side of Bucksford Law in Bank Street, the giant mural forms part of Ashford Borough Council's UNFRAMED art trail through the town.

Street Art Cities, who receive daily uploads from over 1200 cities, shortlisted 25 mural entries in March from Australia to Brazil.

The final top 10 countdown began last week, with it now being revealed that voters from Ashford, and from across the world, had selected the beautiful artwork as the very best.

Tim Marschang, co-founder of Street Art Cities said: "Curtis is no stranger, he's a regular on our monthly 'best of ' series and was even nominated for our 'best of 2022' award.

“Last year we met him in Belfast and since then we've come across his work in many countries. Street Art Cities aims to promote urban art and we see a bunch of new cities are investing in street art and local communities absolutely love it.

“We've seen it in prior 'best of series' where the locals embrace their street art and vote for their street art with pride."

Chris Dixon, Organiser of Ashford Unframed described the award as “an incredible achievement” for Curtis, and for everyone involved in Ashford’s first ever street art festival.

“We hope this global recognition for the work will act as a catalyst for more people to discover Ashford, and the wider open air gallery created through the Unframed Festival,” he added.

Other artworks created for the trail include "Workers of the World", but an artist known as Aspire, and shows a kingfisher with a bolt in its beak, alongside a second bird.

It's close to another finished piece by Charley Peters, which shows a collection of colourful arrows.
