A leisure centre has announced its swimming pool, which has been shut for five days, is closed until further notice.

Bosses at Ashford Stour Centre – which underwent a major £7.5 million refurbishment project in 2021 – first said on Wednesday that the facility was out of action due to “an unforeseen technical issue”.

Then on Saturday, it was announced that the pool would be shut until further notice.

This is due to a problem with the heating inside the facility and warming up the water.

“Regrettably, our pool will remain closed until further notice. We understand the inconvenience this may cause and sincerely appreciate your patience,” a post on social media said.

“We will provide another update on Monday around lunchtime. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.”

This afternoon, bosses said “good progress” was being made in fixing the problem but a full reopening date has not been confirmed.

“We are making progress with the technical issues related to the pool closure,” it said.

“We will update you as soon as we have any information on reopening. Please keep an eye on our Facebook for real-time updates.

“Thank you for your understanding.”

Ashford Sensory Football Club, which uses the Stour Centre, announced on Friday that their session would not go ahead due to the centre having no heat.

“It’s with regret we have had to make the decision to cancel tonight as the Stour Centre has no heat,” it read.

Freedom Leisure, which runs the facility, has been contacted for comment.

It was announced last month that the Stour Centre is set to receive further government funding of £279,259.
