Wayne Ryan clinched his maiden British 125GP championship victory at the weekend.

The 15-year-old racer from New Romney ended the 12-lap race at Snetterton five seconds ahead of his more experienced rival, Rod Guiver.

Ryan also set a 125cc lap record on the newly designed Norfolk circuit.

"It’s been a long time coming," said the 2009 Aprilia Superteens champion. "But it doesn’t make it any less special. It was a fantastic race."

Ryan had qualified third but launched himself into the lead at the start of the race, making the early running ahead of Guiver – a rider 11 years his senior.

Guiver reclaimed the lead at the midway point but the Racing Steps Foundation sponsored Ryan was back in front eight laps in and held on to take the win and set a lap record on the final circuit of the course.

"In the last few laps I was cruising, doing everything all neat and tidy to make sure I won," added Ryan.

"Hopefully there will be more wins to come."

Round seven of the championship is at Oulton Park on July 17. Ryan lies fourth in the overall rider standings and third in the ACU Academy Cup competition.
