A road in Willesborough is closed after a water main ruptured and flooded the road.

The leak sprung from a three-inch hole in an underground pipe in Cudworth Road at around 11am.

Residents reported seeing the road moving up and down, before water poured through the surface.

Kevin Bailey, of Cudworth Road, said: "It happened outside my house. The road started going up and down and there is water everywhere."

Another resident said: "It looks like a burst water pipe under the road.

"Cars driving over and the road is bowing!

"We've gone out for the day - hopefully the house will still be there when get home!" - a resident

Engineers from South East Water are currently on site trying to fix the problem.

South East Water’s Distribution Manager Martin Davis said: “South East Water was notified of a burst water main in Cudworth Road, Ashford at 11am today.

“Our technician located a leak on a three inch diameter pipe and our contractor is currently on site carrying out repairs.

“For safety reasons the road, which is a cul-de-sac, has been closed, although there is full access for residents.

“None of our customers are without water as a result of this incident at this time, but there may be a short interruption to supplies while we carry out the repair.

"We would like to apologise for any inconvenience it has caused.”
