Police were called to a disturbance on a field in Stanhope Road in Ashford at around 6.54pm yesterday, where two men had suffered arm and hand injuries.

Officers carried out a number of inquiries in the area, near to Frittenden Close, and arrested a 19-year-old man later that evening on suspicion of assault.

Two more men from Ashford, aged 18 and 19, have also been arrested and remain in police custody.

Detective Inspector Keith Taylor said: "We believe there were a number of people at the scene during the disturbance who may have witnessed the assaults take place and could have information to assist our investigation.

"We ask anyone with details of what happened to call us as soon as possible."

A video taken by a passer-by shows a glimpse of the incident in Stanhope last night.

An Ashford-resident - who filmed the video but did not want to be identified - saw two police cars at the scene and an ambulance heading off in the opposite direction.

She said: "I went past at around 7.10pm and two men were on the floor. One was sitting up and the other one was lying down. The paramedics were with them.

"I went back around 30 minutes later and the ambulance was leaving."

According to eyewitnesses, around 30 people were on the playing field at the time of the incident.

Two men received treatment after sustaining arm and hand injuries in the assault. They were taken to hospital for further treatment.

Witnesses should contact police by calling 01843 222289 quoting reference 02-1419. Alternatively call the independent charity Crimestoppers in Kent, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
