A 23-year-old tried to pull a five-inch knife on police as he was arrested after attacking a woman.

Kuislend Dishi, of Tufton Street, Ashford, was arrested after police officers were called to reports a woman was being followed by him.

Dishi not only followed her, he also then pulled her towards his car, at which time officers arrived n the scene.

It transpired the day prior he had messaged the woman - who he knew - threatening to kill her and telling her he had a gun.

Once Dishi was told he was being arrested, he tried to reach into his pocket where he had a 5in fixed-blade knife.

An officer managed to prevent him pulling it out but Dishi ran off, prompting officers to chase after him. He was then captured with the help of a passer-by.

Dishi was later charged with assaults on two emergency workers, a malicious communications offence, common assault and having a knife.

He denied the offences in interview but admitted them when the case came to court.

Dishi was jailed for a year and eight months at Canterbury Crown Court.

PC Ryan Kelly said after sentencing: "Dishi's actions would have been terrifying for his female victim, the two police officers and the member of the public who assisted. I would like to praise the bravery of all of them.

"Kent Police takes a zero tolerance approach to knife crime and we will seek to prosecute anyone found carrying a blade on our streets."
