Bloss Coffee opens branch in Ashford

Ashford's first coffee roastery has opened - with its owners hoping to "improve the town's coffee experience".

Bloss Coffee threw open its doors earlier this month in Kingsnorth’s Kingsmill off Ashford Road, which has been owned by the co-founder's family for more than 100 years.

Following a year of construction work, the roastery is now welcoming visitors, who can enjoy a drink and a chat while coffee is roasted in-house.

The name comes from a Gaelic proverb which roughly translates as "even just a small amount can bring great flavour".

Co-founders Luke Gilbert and Michael Adler hope to share the story of their coffee and create a long-term impact for the farmers they have selected half-way across the world.

The company has a co-founder permanently stationed in Thailand, from where they source sustainable forest-grown coffee beans from the Asian country and Myanmar.

General manager Joel Tozer said: "Bloss brings a story and with that story comes community.

"We pride ourselves in our coffee and sharing that, while providing a comfortable atmosphere, seems to bring people back for more every day.

"Everything has been built by us and we're also very proud of that.

"People can stop by for a coffee and take a bag of beans home to enjoy the same coffee all week long too.

"Our online store is growing and a few coffee shops around Kent are taking our coffee to serve.

"In-house, we also sell forest grown teas - working against the widespread deforestation that’s gone on in northern Thailand - and a large array of coffee equipment for brewing at home.

"Our house baker, Lynne, makes amazing brownies and blondies too."
