Tributes paid to Luke McCarthy, from Wye, near Ashford, who died in Paris

Tributes have been paid to an Ashford teenager who has died in an accident in Paris.

The young man, named locally as Luke McCarthy, is believed to have died on Thursday night.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London has confirmed it is providing support to the family of a British national who died in France. Details of the circumstances of his death have yet to be confirmed.

It is understood Mr McCarthy, 19, from Wye, was living in the French capital and studying at the University of London Institute in Paris.

Today, Tim Gore, the chief executive officer of the university said staff and students have been “greatly saddened” by the news of his death.

Mr Gore said: “Luke McCarthy, a student with us at the University of London Institute in Paris, will be sorely missed by all his fellow students and the staff here at the Institute.

Luke was a student at Highworth Grammar School in Ashford

“We are all greatly saddened by this loss.”

Mr McCarthy was a former student at Highworth Grammar School, in Quantock Drive, in Ashford, having joined in 2012 to study his A Levels.

He left the school in 2014.
