A 16-year-old girl killed in a road crash has been described as a caring and popular youngster who loved horses.

Martina Chance, of Beaver Lane, South Ashford, died at the scene when the car in which she was a passenger struck a tree and overturned at Bethersden.

Her older sister Francine, 17, recalled Martina's love of horses, music and going out with friends.

“Horses were her main passion and her dream was to work with them,” said Francine. "She used to ride her cousins’ horses and she did work experience at Ingleden Park stables."

As well as her siblings Gary, Francine, Mandy, Megan and Elanor, Martina loved spending time with her three-year-old nephew Joshua.

Art had been her favourite subject at Homewood School, Tenterden, which she was about to leave after sitting her GCSEs, said her mother Linda.

Martina’s 21-year-old boyfriend was driving the Citroen Saxo car when it crashed on the A28 near the junction with Bull Lane at about 7.30pm on Sunday. He was seriously injured and underwent surgery in hospital for leg injuries.
