A group of Kent choristers have refused to let the coronavirus pandemic dampen their spirits, or their voices.

Singers from The Rockit choir group- otherwise known as The Rockits- have come together to record a special musical number; all via webcam.

The group, which is made up of three choirs from Tenterden, Hawkhurst and Aldington, was founded by musical director Max Wilson.

Members recorded themselves individually on webcam singing 'All I ask of You' from Andrew Lloyd Webber's hit musical Phantom of the Opera, before compiling it into a single video.

Ms Wilson said: "We're all having to avoid gatherings, of course, and a fair few of us are having to self-isolate due to vulnerability.

"This was just an idea that we came up with to show everyone that the show can go on!

"We want to bring a little bit of light into people's days, and we felt the song lyrics were particularly apt."

Ms Wilson started the not-for-profit group in a friend's lounge years ago with a small number of singers.

Now 12 years on, the organisation has 220 members across the three choirs, and donates all proceeds from performances to local hospices.

With their video already garnering hundreds of hits, Ms Wilson says that they have no intention of slowing down.

She said: "Our current plan is to do one of these every week.

"With doing a recording rather than all singing live, it at least means we can do multiple takes- some of the members have never recorded themselves before!"
