Hollywood superstar Johnny Depp helped a couple celebrate their first wedding anniversary by posing for photographs on the Eurostar.

The A-lister drank champagne with Roxanne and Dave King after joining them in the business class carriage with his agent and security guard.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star - who was travelling from Paris and got off the train at Ashford International - signed a bottle of Moet for the couple on Sunday evening.

Mrs King, who lives in Park Farm, Ashford, said: "It was a great ending to our anniversary.

"I was telling my husband to play it cool when we realised it was him but he said 'alright Johnny' and the conversation started.

"We were just having a casual chat and he was so laid back. We didn't want to bombard him, but I did ask him to say 'but why is the rum gone?'"

Depp had travelled to Paris over the Christmas period to visit children at the Curie Institute Hospital and research centre.

Dressed as his famous character Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean, the 55-year-old paid a surprise visit to children who spent Christmas in hospital last Thursday.

Mrs King, 27, who works as a social media advisor, said: "He told us he had only just made the train as he had left his passport behind and got on it with three minutes to spare.

"We were in shock and the two hours flew by - it was like watching him on the telly.

"When we told him it was our first wedding anniversary, he got some champagne and it made our anniversary.

"My husband asked him where he was going and he said it was to somewhere about a 50 minutes' drive away from Ashford.

"He even rolled a cigarette but said he would wait until he got off at Ashford."

Depp is good friends with Kent cartoonist Ralph Steadman, who lives in Loose near Maidstone.

The pair became friends after Steadman illustrated the Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas novel, which Depp later starred in.

The actor was due to attend Mr Steadman's 80th birthday in 2016, but had to send his apologies at the last moment.
