A woman spent two hours stuck in a lift in Ashford's Marks and Spencer store.

Firefighters were called to the shop, which is in County Square shopping centre, off the High Street, at around 6pm yesterday.

It is understood the employee became trapped in the service lift following an electrical fault.

Ali Gilfillan, from Ashford's fire station, explains: "The best practice is to call an engineer, which the store's manager had done. But they were slow getting there so they called us.

"We know what to do.

"The woman was stuck between floors, but was fine."
