Three catapults have been taken from a group of youths after they used them to fire objects from a town centre car park.

Police in Ashford seized the weapons today from three youngsters following reports they were using them in the town.

A tweet from the Ashford policing team included a photo of the catapults, one which is branded Catty Shack.

Similar ones online cost £13.95.

A spokesman for police said: "Catapults were seized from three youths after officers were called to Edinburgh Road, Ashford at 3.28pm on Sunday (May 9).

"The patrol recorded the details of the individuals, who all were from the Sevenoaks area, and enquiries are ongoing in relation to any potential criminal offences committed."

Ashford has previously been dubbed Kent's catapult crime capital.

Earlier this year, a cat called Trousers was left with a shattered nose and a hole in its face after being hit with a catapulted ball bearing.

In March, several cars were damaged including smashed windows following a spate of attacks.

It led to police enforcing a weekend dispersal order in south Ashford due to the number of attacks.

Catapults are legal to purchase, and can be carried anywhere unless the owner has an intent to cause injury.

Police have been asked for more details about today's incident.
