Arsonists destroy police car

A police car had been destroyed in an early morning arson attack on Ashford’s Stanhope estate.

Police have launched an investigation following the attack on two police vehicles parked at the police station on the estate on Thursday.

A Skoda Fabia was completely destroyed by fire, but the second vehicle, a Mercedes Sprinter was undamaged.

Officers are now studying CCTV footage of the area.

Ch Insp John Frayne, said: “Crime in Stanhope is very low at the moment. This arson attack is an affront to the local community.

“With the exception of a minority the residents of are law abiding and will resent the attack on their police station.

"The attack happened at around 4am, and we urge anyone with information to come forward.”

Two men have been arrested in connection with the incident.
