Hundreds of school children across Ashford arrived anxiously at their secondary schools bright and early this morning to collect their GCSE results.

Pupils, teachers and parents celebrated together, many crying with joy, but others weren't as pleased.

Here's the round up from each school across the area.

Highworth Grammar School

Highworth pupils once again obtained excellent results, with 97.8% of pupils achieving five or more A* to C grades.

Paul Danielsen, head teacher at Highworth said: "The results are fantastic. We are really pleased.

"It is a great reflection on on the hard work they have put in.

"We always try to give everybody some help and guidance and we will try and have a chat about the best course for them to do."

John Wallis Academy

John Wallis Academy pupils celebrated an impressive set of GCSE results in everything from English and maths to beauty and construction.

Principle John McParland said each year the school teaches youngsters with vastly different academic abilities and is delighted that this year they have all exceeded their targets.

He said: “Our pupils can be justly proud of their results, which bear witness to their hard work and determination to succeed.”

One pupil who was particularly pleased with her grades was Chloe Brown, who achieved an incredible four A*s and seven As.

She said: “I didn’t expect it. I’ve worked really hard so I’d hoped I’d got Bs in everything so when I opened the results this morning I thought I was going to cry, I was so happy!”

Mum Maxine added: “I’m just so proud of her, she did amazing.”

The North School

School head teacher Nicki Hodges said that Year 11 pupils have achieved the "best results in the history of the school".

She praised the "colossal" effort of staff, and said pupils put in the hard work to double the rate of A* to C grades in English and maths, up to 54% this year.

Chloe Ludlow was among the high achievers, scoring an A* grade with four A grades and five B grades, while Rosie Driscoll gained four A grades and six B grades, and Adam Frudenberg scored three A grades, six B grades and one C grade.

The Towers School

Towers School were happy with their best ever GCSE results this morning, improving across the board.

A third of all grades awarded were at A*, A and B grades.

Over half of students attained a C grade or above in both English and Maths.

Principal Mr Richard Billings said: "We are very proud of our Year 11 students.

"They have worked hard and deserve their success.

"I'd like to thank their families for all the support along with our fantastic team of staff and supportive trustees."

Michael Northey, Kent County Council Deputy Cabinet Member for Education joined the school to speak to the students as they opened their results.

Norton Knatchbull

Pupils arrived at 9am to collect their results at the Norton Knatchbull School in Hythe Road, among them was Robbie Dhillon who achieved 11 A* grades along with two As, and Giles manning who scored eight A*s and three As.

Meanwhile Will Triggs scored 10 A* grades with two As and Ben Sinclair scored six A* grades with six A grades.
