Ashford Hockey Club throw away lead in defeat to Winchester

Ashford's men suffered a disappointing afternoon with a 3-1 defeat at Winchester.

Paul Cheaps put the visitors ahead with a stunning drag-flick into the top corner but it was the last positive for Ashford on a long afternoon.

Despite some fine approach play and creativity going forward, Ashford were
made to pay for missed chances.

Andy Hill came close on several occasions but lacked the composure to finish off a few great moves.

At the back in the first half, Ashford looked shaky and the first goal came from a reverse stick shot from one of three unmarked forwards.

The second arrived when Ashford turned the ball over carelessly on top of their own area and the third was a well-struck short corner although Ashford’s defence left too much time and space and an unguarded post for the forward to pick out.
