Full-back Brian Cowie, scorer of Ashford’s first try, makes a break and, right, centre Joe Lakin braces himself for a tackle
Ashford produced a bright performance to record their second Kent 1 win on the spin with a 23-5 defeat of HSBC.
Ashford dominated the opening quarter with the pack, making good ground at the break downs.
They went in front after 20 minutes when a deft kick to the left-hand corner flag by Jonathan Murray was chased down and touched down by full-back Brian Cowie.
Murray added a penalty five minutes later and Ashford continued to dominate with hooker Callum Stuckey adding another try.
Fly-half Murray had to leave the field through injury and 17-year-old winger Shaun Woolford stepped into the
No.10 position.
Scrum-half Mike Watson then added another penalty before half-time to make it 16-0.
But after the break, HSBC dominated the scrum and pinned Ashford into their own half for the first 15 minutes, scoring an uncoverted try.
HSBC continued to dominate the forward exchanges but Ashford managed to defend well and contain the
pressure.
Joe Lakin then scored a breakaway try 10 minutes from time, with Pete Walsh adding the extras to seal the win.
