Ashford got their season back on track with a 3-2 away win over highly-rated West Hampstead in South Premier League Division 2.

After last weekend’s league and cup defeats, Ashford needed a lift on their return to action and did not disappoint.

Sam Handley and Adam Fox grabbed a goal each before Chris Pearce netted the winner as Ashford chalked up their first league win of the campaign.

With skipper Chris Smith, coach Jen Wilson and England youth player James Spain all missing, Ashford were always going to have their work cut out against their London opposition.

And this was a case reinforced early on, as the hosts eased into a two-goal lead.

On the stroke of half-time Handley gave his side a lifeline with a superb finish and Ashford carried their momentum into the second half as the team showed great desire to fight their way back into the game.

The productive Rob Playford found Fox free in the circle and he made no mistake to put the ball through the keeper’s legs to level.

Then, 10 minutes from time, Fox and Playford combined again, this time to set up Pearce to grab the winner.

Ashford’s defence – marshalled by man-of-the-match Alex Houston – held firm to withstand some late West Hampstead pressure and take the points.

Ashford are at home to London Wayfarers on Saturday.

Ashford Ladies earned a creditable point with a 3-3 draw against Kent Premier League leaders Sevenoaks 3A.

After conceding an early goal, Ashford drew level when Kim Cameron fired home after combining with Kate Reed.

Ashford then raised their game and after Karina Greensmith and Emily Whittaker had worked well in the middle, Cameron’s strike was deflected in by Charlotte Kite.

Sevenoaks equalised from a short corner and looked to have won the points when a poor challenge on Cameron led to a penalty stroke which she converted herself.

However, with just five minutes left, Sevenoaks counter-attacked and deflected one past keeper Cheryl Collier.
