Ashford lost their Kent 1 mid-table battle against Guy’s King’s & St Thomas’ Hospitals 22-5 on Saturday.
Things started badly as the referee deemed their pitch unplayable and moved them onto the 2nd XV pitch, denying them a vociferous home support as the first VIP lunch of the season was taking place at the club.
Ashford were looking for their first win in three weeks and the atrocious weather meant there were mistakes made by both teams early on.
Captain Peter Walsh took charge of a penalty 15 metres out and went over to give Ashford a five-point lead.
However, the hosts were unable to build on that score and just before the break, Guys levelled with a try of their own.
Ashford found the second half a struggle but there were good individual performances, with Tom Williams scrummaging well, Glenn Collins carrying well, while Vic Horne and James Fitzpatrick impressed in the loose.
Guys crossed the line three more times, one which was converted, to put the game well beyond Ashford.
