Ashford's Mark Lovell launches a diving header towards goal in the 3-2 win over Horsham YMCA at Homelands on Saturday
Mark Lovell scored twice as Ashford Town moved off the foot of Ryman League Division 1 South for the first time since early December after a 3-2 comeback win over Horsham YMCA at Homelands on Saturday.
The visitors took the lead from a controversial 36th minute penalty and went 2-0 up three minutes into the second half, despite Ashford having bossed the game to that point.
However Lovell headed the Nuts and Bolts back into the game on 65 minutes and the frontman nodded the equaliser from a superb Danny Lye cross eight minutes from time.
In-form YMCA rallied and hit the bar before Town grabbed the points on 84 minutes when Mitchell Sherwood smashed in a dubious penalty to seal a superb comeback win.
o Folkestone's Ryman League Division 1 South title challenge was dented as they lost for just the third time this season with a 2-0 reverse at Sittingbourne on Saturday.
The visitors were already 1-0 down to a 24th-minute penalty when they were reduced to 10 men three minutes into the second half when striker Simon Austin was shown a straight red for a foul on Bourne keeper Deren Ibrahim, who was replaced in goal by outfielder Billy Manners.
After a one-sided second half the hosts bagged the second eight minutes from time.
