Ashford Town's new captain Liam Tegg, who is looking to bolster the club's playing ranks
Liam Tegg, the newly appointed captain of Ashford Town, has launched a recruiting drive to strengthen the club’s bid for Kent League honours this season.
Ashford want players for all four of their Saturday league teams and the club’s open-door policy also applies to those who only prefer to play on Sundays.
The Former Norton Knatchbull captain, 20, one of the youngest club captains in the club’s history has already stamped his authority on pre-season preparations.
Despite his tender years, Tegg is a highly experienced all-rounder. He played Sydney Shires League cricket for Warringah two winters ago and has captained the East Kent League representative side, Kent Schools and Kent Colts.
Tegg, who will also skipper the Sunday 1sts, is optimistic of league success at Stacians Park this summer, despite the loss of several senior players.
His confidence stems from a strong batting line-up boosted by the arrival of new keeper-batsman Kyle McAlister and a talented bowling attack.
He said: "I’m encouraging the club to play competitive, disciplined cricket with a greater team spirit. I want us to work hard and play hard.
"The fun factor is vital when playing deadly serious league stuff but we are always looking for new players, offering them a warm welcome and a chance to play with a smile."
Tegg invites prospective new players to join Ashford Town’s pre-season nets at the St Lawrence ground, Canterbury on Mondays (8.30pm) in preparation for the opening Kent League Division 1 trip to Sibton Park on Saturday May 8.
The Town’s youth development programme, organised by Simon Taylor, begins with Sign-on Day at Stacians Park, on Sunday, April 18 (10am).
