Ashford United will find out next month which league they will be playing in next season.

Chairman/owner Tony Betteridge and managing director Paul Bowden-Brown presented the club’s case to the Football Association Leagues Committee officials at Wembley Stadium on Monday ahead of their next meeting on Thursday, with the final decision expected in the second week of May.

United formed following the demise of the old Ashford Town who were a Step 4 club playing in the Ryman League, Division 1 South.

Mr Bowden-Brown (pictured) said: "The benchmark is to drop two divisions, meaning we would drop to Step 6 but, although there are plans for a new league at that level in Kent, I have heard it won’t happen next season.

"I would like to see us play in the Kent League but am taking nothing for granted. The meeting was positive. We proved the legality of our set-up and explained all the hard work everyone had put in. They came back with a couple of things for us to consider regarding changing our structure."

The club have already attracted two sponsorship deals from local firms, while his contacts abroad have also created interest from as far away as Luxembourg.
