Former Norton Knatchbull pupil Alex Brooker has collected a BAFTA with the Channel 4 Paralympics team for their coverage of London 2012.

The TV Presenter helped lead the channel’s coverage of the opening ceremony of the Games and was a key part of comedy programme The Last Leg.

Channel 4 beat the BBC to win the BAFTA for best sport and live event on Sunday night.

Mr Brooker, who used to live in Willesborough, said: “It was the best night of my life. No one expected us to beat the BBC for the coverage of the Olympics. I was just excited to be there. I can’t believe I’ve won a BAFTA in my first year in television.”

Mr Brooker, who has a prosthetic right leg, carried out work exerperience at the Kentish Express before going on to to study journalism at Liverpool’s John Moores University. He subsequently worked for the Liverpool Echo and the Press Association as a sports reporter before being selected to help cover the Olympic and Paralympic Games for Channel 4.

He admitted being petrified before interviewing Prime Minister David Cameron and Mayor of London Boris Johnson during the opening ceremony last summer, but went on to become an intergral part of the popular last night comedy show The Last Leg with comedians Adam Hills and Josh Widdicombe.

The presenter was later given an contract by Channel 4 and is in the process of filming a documentary about male weight loss.
