When two young boys from Ashford let off some balloons in their back garden, nobody expected them to get very far.
However, one of the balloons travelled nearly 500 miles and landed in Germany!
Danny Higgins, six, and his brother Connor, who is four, released four helium balloons from their garden in Kennington on Satrurday, August 12 as part of Danny’s birthday celebrations.
The boys attached a little note to each balloon to see where they would end up.
Their mum, Emma, said: “We released the balloons for Danny’s birthday and put a little note on them, but I didn’t really think anything of it.
“Then we got back off of holiday the other day and found a letter from a boy in Germany who had found the balloon and sent us a letter.”
Frederike Hahn found the balloon in Schlitz, which is roughly 464 miles away, and posted a letter to the boys which is dated as Monday, August 14 - just two days after the balloons were released.
He also included a little map to show where Schlitz is in regards to England, as well as a small picture of the town.
Emma continued: “They couldn’t quite believe it had gone that far!
“Connor didn’t really understand but Danny was amazed it had flown all that way and was really excited.
“They are going to write back, as they want to know exactly where it had landed and if any of the balloons where still inflated and they also want to send him a picture of where we live.”
