A tense sudden-death tie-break question settled the top spot at south Kent’s KM Big Charity Quiz at Ashford’s Stour Centre.
Both Stargating across the Quizziverse and Supernova scored 58 points at the end of six rounds, prompting the tie-break which was won by Simon Rowden’s Stargating team.
The event proved a double success with a record 40 teams of eight taking part, making it south Kent’s biggest charity wine and wisdom evening in 2016.
And with £7,000 raised for local good causes including children’s literacy scheme Buster’s Book Club, road safety initiatives and Kent Express charity of the year Fairshare, event question master Simon Dolby was delighted with the result.
Two of the major supporters on the night – Shepherd Neame who donated all the beverages for the Spitfire Charity Bar and staff from Barclays who manned the bar and helped with a variety of jobs on the night – then matched the amount raised up to £3,000.
Also helping were Hallett & Co, Specsavers, Office Angels, McDonald’s, Independent Music Productions, Stour Centre, Hornby and Kentish Oils.
Simon Dolby said: “The teams attending were great fun and so the atmosphere was great. The event team were so pleased at the success of the night.”
The top four teams from the night will be invited to take on top quiz teams from the Canterbury, Medway and Maidstone heats of the Big Quiz. The county final will be staged in January.
The Ashford event will move to June in 2017 and be staged at the Ashford International Hotel.
