Biker arrested on suspicion of theft of green Kymco motorbike after crash in West Street, Hothfield near Ashford left him with serious head injury

A motorcyclist suffering with serious injuries after crashing has been arrested on suspicion of theft.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses to the incident in Hothfield near Ashford yesterday morning.

The man, a 23-year-old from Ashford, was taken to hospital in London with a serious head injury.

He also suffered leg and shoulder injuries after crashing into bushes in West Street while travelling from Little Chart at around 11.10am.

But police arrested him on suspicion of theft after the motorcycle, a green Kymco bike, had been reported missing from Cressfield in South Ashford a few hours earlier.

He has been bailed until September 9.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are now looking into the circumstances leading up to the crash and would like to speak to witnesses.

Det Con David Holmes of the SCIU said: "We would like to hear from anyone who saw the bike before the collision or if they witnessed the collision itself.

"We are also investigating how the bike, which was reported missing earlier, came to be involved in a collision, so if anyone might have information about that, we urge them to get in touch."
