Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic accident on Saturday evening.

Just before 8.55pm a motorcycle was travelling down Charing Hill from Challock in the direction of Maidstone, when it struck the kerb and hit a fence just before the junction with Pilgrim Way.

The rider came off the bike and sustained fatal injuries.

A member of the public tried to resuscitate the rider, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

He has been identified as a 38-year-old Chilham man.

An inquest is likely to be opened later this week when he will be named.
