A woman fled her house after a fire from a bin shed spread to her home and climbed into her roof.
The blaze broke out at about 2pm on Bank Holiday Monday at Sir John Fogge Avenue, Repton Park, Ashford.
The fire, which destroyed the bin shed, reached the adjoining two-storey house and crept up its side, getting into the roofspace.
An Ashford fire station spokesman said: “There had been a middle-aged woman inside and didn’t realise what had happened until we got there.
“But she got out safely.”
About 10 per cent of the roof caught light but firefighters quickly put the flames out before they could spread further. The blaze ended up causing a small amount of damage to the roofspace.
Two fire engines from the Ashford station were called to the scene.
Crews believe the blaze could have been started accidentally, such as through a discarded cigarette, and aggravated by Monday’s hot, dry weather.
