The lead singer of a British indie rock band will be performing a DJ set in Ashford this Friday night.
Kele Okereke will be playing at music venue and bar Platform 5, in Station Road, as part of his country wide tour promoting his new compilation, Tapes.
The gig has been organised by Ashford events company, Intimacy Promotions, and will coincide with the fifth anniversary since their first gig in Ashford.
Founder and director Josh Heyburn said: “I have always been a massive Bloc Party fan and we jumped at the opportunity to host Kele in Ashford.
“Not many people know but Bloc Party’s third album, Intimacy, was a key influence on my business name choice so its quite fitting and something we’d have only dreamt about five years ago.”
Bloc Party was founded in 1999 and consists of musicians Kele Okereke, Russell Lissack, Gordon Moakes and Matt Tong. The band, who are currently on an indefinite hiatus, have released four albums: Silent Alarm, A Weekend in the City, Intimacy and Four.
Mr Okereke will be supported by Intimacy resident DJ, Jack Dedman , AKA DJ JD, as well as Magnets, Get Inuit, DJ Ben Humphrey and Gentlemen of Few.
Mr Heyburn, a former Norton Knatchbull student, added: “Normally Kele is very interactive so hopefully he’ll get on the microphone and will sing for us.”
Doors will open at 8pm, with Mr Okereke expected to play from 12pm.
Tickets are available from www.seetickets.com and will be available on the door.
