One of the final key sections of Ashford town centre’s refurbishment is about to be put in place.

The bolt is the centrepiece of the corner of the West Street/Elwick Road junction and is designed by award-winning artist John Atkin is to be installed.

The bolt is made from COR-TEN steel which includes a protective feature that never requires painting or maintenance.

The COR-TEN steel is also proposed for use as a cladding material on a series of low retaining walls which will form a cascading terrace area long the frontage of the new Affinity Homes development.

From Monday the shared space element of the road works will be re-opened to two-way traffic.

This will include the area running from Station Road/Elwick Road junction to West Street.

The Godinton Road bus gate will revert back to its original operation – allowing only buses, taxis and emergency services to use it.

This was opened to assist traffic flow during the building works.

Traffic will revert back to accessing and exiting Godinton Road as before the works started.

There will still be some work taking place on the footways, in particular, the area of Elwick Square and the terraces by the Oranges public. This is estimated to take a further two weeks.
