Boy, 11, walks to Ashford fire station with glass in foot

A child struggled in agony to a fire station with a piece of glass stuck in his foot.

The 11-year-old called on shocked firefighters with the chunk sticking through his shoe and into the arch of his foot.

The crew at Ashford Fire Station immediately called paramedics who took him to hospital.

Fire fighter Steve Coulson said: "He turned up at the station, propped up by a friend, and he had a piece of glass sticking into his right foot.

"The boy was in a lot of pain but he was quite brave about it. We sat him down straight away.

"We didn't know how deep the glass had gone in. We were concerned about taking it out in case we hurt him even more so we called the ambulance service."

The boy, from The North School, had called at the station in Henwood at about 3.45pm yesterday.

A South East Coast Ambulance Service response car turned up and took him to William Harvey Hospital.

Mr Coulson added: "We are not sure how this happened but he said he had been walking along Hythe Road and he must have stepped on the glass.

"We contacted his mother and she met him at the hospital."
