A brazen fly-tipper has been fined after he was caught on CCTV dumping a bed and mattress near a business park.
A 69-year-old man used a pick-up truck to dump the items at the end of a track near Evegate Business Park in Smeeth.
Ashford Borough Council’s (ABC) environmental enforcement team began investigating after receiving reports of an early morning fly-tip.
The team was able to track down CCTV stills of the vehicle with clear vehicle registration and times of the tip.
Further investigations into the registered keeper of the vehicle led to a man from Kennington being interviewed under caution by the council’s Environmental Enforcement team.
He confirmed he deposited the waste on Evegate's land without obtaining permission from the landowner.
During the interview, he even stated that he had done it before.
The man was issued with a £1,000 Fixed Penalty Notice, which he has paid in full.
A spokesperson from ABC said: “The council takes the illegal dumping of waste seriously and will issue fines against offenders and car owners involved in fly-tipping.
“Householders have a duty of care to ensure that they dispose of their household waste correctly.
“If you have bulk rubbish this can be disposed of at the local recycling centre or by arranging bulk collection services provided by Biffa.
“If you are caught fly-tipping using a vehicle then the registered keeper is liable and fines will be served.”
