A business duo are staying tight-lipped about what people can expect after they opened Kent's latest visitor attraction this week.
In February plans for the new Pressure Point Escape Rooms were revealed, and this week the attraction has opened in Ashford town centre above Caffe Nero.
Now owners Keri Millar and Mike Inglis spoke about their ambition to bring a unique attraction to the town, which they say will also boost other businesses nearby.
The partners live in Kennington, and had searched for premises since April last year. It is their first business venture together, after they both left their jobs in education.
Mr Inglis said: “It took a lot of convincing ourselves that we could do it. We are definitely nervous and we’ve started to realise how the little things matter.”
Escape rooms work by setting challenges and brain teasers for individuals and groups to solve in order to progress to the next level and “escape” each room, rather like the popular television programme The Crystal Maze.
But Ms Millar is keen to stress that no one is actually locked in the rooms and that they are large and don’t feel claustrophobic.
She said: “People can come down and see the rooms before they book, and see the rooms aren’t locked. Some people have seen horror films like Saw but our escape rooms are nothing like that.”
Mr Inglis says creating themes for the rooms and puzzles has been a tough task but that Pressure Point would be different to other escape rooms which already exist in Kent.
He said: “It’s like going to the cinema, you don’t see the same film every time you go, so we have built the rooms and puzzles ourselves, you won’t see them anywhere else.”
Now, their challenge is to keep the secrets within under wraps, so people can make the most of their experience and use their brains to escape the pressure.
The Pressure Point Escape Rooms opened on Monday, May 29. For more information search for Pressure Point on Facebook or visit www.pressurepointescaperooms.co.uk
