Engineers from UK Power Networks are expected to carry out repairs until Friday, February 3.

A diversion is in place along the A28 Canterbury Road, A2042 Faversham Road and A251 Faversham Road, but some fear the closure will spark incidents.

Villager Elspeth Dunn said: "Wye Road is the main route between myself and my parents, and we often go over to help them.

"Having it closed once again means the traffic diversion is disruptive.

"It also causes chaos as people use Pilgrims Way and Church Lane as a cut-through, making this normally safe and peaceful road a hazard.

.

"I just hope this newest hole will not become one of the many manholes when they refill it."

Elsewhere in Ashford, Blackwall Road in Willesborough Lees is to remain shut for another two weeks while contractors repair "multiple potholes".

The flood-hit route closed on January 18 between Blackwall Road North and South and Goodcheap Lane, something residents described as a "necessary inconvenience".

It will reopen on February 7.
