Donations and a new home are needed for Kitkat the cat after he used up most of his nine lives.
The 18-month-old black cat suffered a broken leg and chest injuries after being hit by a car.
He had been missing for four days but managed to find his way home on three legs and despite having breathing difficulties.
Kitkat was stabilised at an emergency clinic overnight and then taken to the Eureka Veterinary Centre in Eureka Place, off Trinity Road. As the cat’s owner was unable to pay for surgery the centre staff decided to temporarily adopt him and donated money to pay for the operation to fix his fractured leg last Tuesday.
Vet Margaret Cnatalska said: “Kitkat’s life was hanging in the balance as the only option we had left was to put him to sleep.
“We decided that this fantastic cat deserved another chance in life and we took responsibility for him.
“The practice and staff have already donated some money to Kitkat’s operation but we are still trying to raise more funds and we are looking for a loving new home for this wonderful character.
“Without more help and surgery Kitkat will be in constant pain and we will be left with no options other than to euthanise him.”
She added: “He is a fantastic cat. He’s got a very nice loving character and he is always on his back asking for cuddles.
“He is very good with children but we don’t know how he is with other cats or dogs so ideally we’d like him to go to a family with no other pets.”
