A pensioner remains in hospital with serious injuries after a lorry fell on her car as it went around a roundabout.

The incident happened at about 6.50am on Friday at the roundabout at Junction 10.

The 71-year-old was cut free from the wreckage of her Ford Fiesta Zetec by fire crews at 7.15am.

She was rushed to the William Harvey Hospital five minutes later with serious head injuries.

Another car was also crushed in the incident but the male driver was taken to hospital with only minor injuries.

The lorry driver was unharmed.

The road was closed off until late in the afternoon as forensic officers carried out tests and the lorry was put upright.

Investigations by police continue.

Traffic was diverted up the Hythe Road towards the town centre causing considerable tailbacks for commuters.

The Environment Agency was also called out as diesel was leaking onto the road and going down a drain.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Kent Police on 01622 690690.
