POLICE are investigating after two cars were apparently shot at with BB guns.

On Tuesday, a 52-year-old man from the Ashford area was driving his car near the Beaver Road roundabout on Romney Marsh Road in the town when he heard two bangs and two chips appeared on his windscreen, causing an estimated £250 worth of damage.

The man believes BB gun pellets were fired into his car.

Meanwhile, last Saturday (August 20), another local man was driving along Norman Road with his window wound down at about 10.30am when he felt a sharp pain on his cheek.

When he searched his car later, he discovered a BB gun pellet.

DS Rod Scawen said: "Replica and BB guns are very realistic, and teenagers and children can get hold of them even though they are expensive.

"Apart for the obvious stupidity of firing a missile into a moving vehicle, with the attendant danger of serious injury and damage, a great deal of police time is taken up with calls to incidents involving BB and replica guns.

"Emergency calls from members of the public regarding firearms are treated very seriously, and can result in a major firearms incident.

"While there is no law against owning or firing a BB or replica gun, it makes sense to use it responsibly and not to put innocent members of the public in fear or danger."
