Car crashes into fallen tree on A28 Ashford Road near Great Chart

A man in his 40s was taken to hospital this morning after his car smashed into a fallen tree.

The busy A28 Ashford Road, near Great Chart, was closed following the crash around 6.30am.

The vehicle hit the tree that had fallen into the road between Old Surrenden Manor Road and Bethersden Road.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene, including two ambulances and the police.

The man was taken to the William Harvey Hospital for medical treatment but his injuries are not thought to be serious.

He was conscious when ambulance crews arrived and had managed to get himself out of the car.

Rich Airey, SECAmb spokesman, said: "Local people at the scene attempted to cut the tree up to allow the ambulance to get through, anything to help clear the roads is greatly appreciated.

"They also provided help to the man before our arrival so thank you to them.”
