British movie mogul and former Kentish Express reporter Peter Rogers has died aged 95.

Having found fame as the urbane producer of the notoriously naughty Carry On films, which ran from 1958 to 1978, Mr Rogers, who was born in Rochester in 1914, started his career as a reporter on the Kentish Express after leaving school.

He moved into theatre work in the 1930s, before returning to journalism briefly and then beaome a BBC Radio scriptwriter.

He moved into the world of film, marrying producer Betty Box and working on a number of Pinewood Studio fims, before overseeing the first Carry On movie, Carry on Sergerant, in 1958.

He remained the series’ figurehead and was involved in a new Carry On film - Carry On London - at the time of his death.

His wife, Betty, died in 1999.
