Cash stolen in armed Sainsbury's raid

A MAN escaped with hundreds of pounds from the till of a supermarket café after an armed robbery.

A white man in his mid-20s walked into the café at Sainsbury's in Simone Weil Avenue, Ashford, just before 4pm on Tuesday.

Police say he waited for the female cashier to open her till before with what is believed to be a handgun and forcing her to hand over cash.

He was last seen running across the car park and out onto Simone Weil Avenue.

The offender is described as a young white man in his 20s, with dark collar length hair. He was thin, unshaven and wore dark sunglasses, a dark jacket, a white shirt and dark trousers.

Police say there was a number of shoppers at the supermarket and a lot of people travelling close by at the time of the raid.
