Cat flap burglars hunted

Cat - or cat flap - burglars are being hunted by police in Ashford.

Officers are investigating a series of night-time thefts where raiders got into homes through cat and dog flaps.

Goods worth an estimated £3,260 have been stolen from properties in Charminster, Old Orchard, Gordon Road, Christchurch Road and Birling Road.

In two cases the dog or cat flap had been removed and in other burglaries access was gained through cat flaps.

“We advise householders to make sure that keys are not left in doors which have cat or dog flaps fitted,” said police spokesman Rosie Alexander.

“It is very easy for an offender to reach up and unlock the door.

“Unfortunately, for a determined thief, a cat flap is an insecurity, which is easily breached."

Anyone with information on the raids should contact South Kent police on 0800 555111.
