A MAN and a woman in a silver coloured Rover have been touring the Ashford area apparently trying to lure young children into their car.

A week ago, on Thursday June 12, they beckoned to a nine-year-old girl leaving Linden Grove Primary School, Ashford, at 3.15pm.

On the same day a young boy was followed by an elderly man in a silver car along Oak Tree Road, South Ashford

The reports come a week after the Kentish Express revealed that two children had been approached by a couple in Bethersden and Tenterden. They were also in a silver Rover.

In the South Ashford incident the car reversed up the road alongside the boy, who described the man as bald-headed with silver hair at the sides. He was wearing cheap-looking sunglasses.

And the girl at Linden Grove said she was beckoned by a bald-headed man. A curly haired woman was sitting the back of the car.

But the schoolgirl ignored the gestures and reported what had happened to headteacher Richard James the next day.

Dr Ian Craig, Kent County Council's assistant director for education and libraries, said: "We are very concerned about these incidents and would like to reiterate the safety message of stranger danger to all children. The schools involved are taking extra safety precautions and reporting anything suspicious to the police immediately."

Investigating officer DC Phil Williams said: "We have people approaching young children, beckoning them towards the car, but there has been no attempt to snatch a child and there has been no physical attempts to pull a child inside the car.

"However, we are taking these reports very seriously and patrols have increased in these areas. We are anxious to get the registration or part registration number of this car."
