Teenager Lewis Balantyne produced his best-ever performance and narrowly missed one of the top titles in clay pigeon shooting.
The 16-year-old, from Sellindge, qualified for the Mitsubishi World Series clay shooting competition in Doveridge, Derbyshire, with a fine display in a qualifying event earlier in the summer.
In the final, handicapped according to shooters’ grades, he overcame rivals from higher grades than his own class B in the preliminary round on Saturday, seeing off 80 shooters to earn his place in the final 32 the following day.
After progressing through four more rounds, the youngster was paired against 15-year-old Adam Ewens and, despite producing a fine display, he eventually lost 59-46.
Ewens won a Mitsubishi L200 Barbarian truck worth more than £26,000.
