Comedian Jason Manford tries out £20 ploughman’s at The Tickled Trout pub in Wye, near Ashford

Comedian Jason Manford was tickled pink by a Kent pub’s ploughman’s offering - even though he thought the price was “a bit steep”.

The TV veteran visited Wye yesterday and enjoyed a traditional lunch of cheese, ham, pickles and bread.

Posting on social media about his visit to The Tickled Trout pub, the 8 Out of 10 Cats star said the meal was far better than a previous ploughman’s he tried.

He wrote: “In Kent and couldn’t resist yet another ploughman’s! After the ‘disaster’ last time I was nervous! This time, it was actually more than decent. And, they sliced the apple in a fancy way which is always noticed!

“Proper chunky ham and a good selection of cheeses.

“Toasted bread was a good choice although think I’d rather have a bit of Branston rather than the sweet tasting jam. Although it was a good pickled onion to be fair.

“Still a bit steep at £20 (but I am northern) and to be fair the pub is gorgeous, great staff and with a lovely pub garden alongside the River Stour!”

He accompanied the post with a picture of his lunch, consisting of salad decorated with edible flowers, two slices of bread, two slices of ham, a pickled onion, a gherkin and three types of cheese.

His fans were divided over the cost of the meal.

One commented: “Looks delicious and well presented but I’m afraid £20 would be a bit out of my price range.

“I’d happily take it if someone bought it for me.”

However another wrote: “My goodness, that’s more than £20 worth.

“Ask for a doggie bag and it’ll do your sandwiches for the next day.”
