Worried residents are again voicing their concerns over neglected horses in Kingsnorth.

One of the horses, in a field along Ashford Road, is believed to have recently caught itself on some barbed wire, causing injuries to its eye and leg.

A concerned resident, who asked not to be named, said: “Last Monday I drove past the field and saw one of the horses was lying down – it looked dead.

“I quickly stopped the car and went into the field to check and luckily it was just lying down.

“I managed to get it standing back up again. While I was in the field I noticed that another horse was injured above its eye and also on its leg.

“Its eye was bleeding heavily and the knee looked to be very swollen and bleeding. It looked as though it had caught itself on barbed wire.

“I called the RSPCA straight away but have been going back to check.

“It’s awful because I often drive past these horses and you can see them injured and dying.

“I have even seen dead horses in there before and horses are herd animals so it must be distressing for them. It’s becoming an epidemic.

“People are so concerned about these horses and look after them quite a lot but it’s not our responsibility.”

A spokesman for the RSPCA said someone had been out to see the horses after the injury was reported last week.

She said: “Please be assured we have looked into the welfare issue relating to this horse and the owner is aware of the issue.

“We appreciate people’s concerns about the welfare of horses on this site and we are currently investigating, therefore cannot comment further.”

This comes just two months after dead horses were found in the same field.

In December, the horses were discovered by an employee of the Retreat Animal Rescue.

It looked as though they had been dragged behind a barn and covered with a car door, just yards away from the rest of the herd.
