Conflicting speed limit signs are confusing motorists on a busy stretch of road.
A 40mph limit has been introduced on the A28 close to the Chilmington Green development in Ashford while works are carried out to build 5,750 homes.
But national speed limit signs are still up along the road, leaving drivers confused about the correct speed to follow.
While some motorists felt the higher limit should be followed because it sits behind the 40 sign, others remarked that it was 'common sense' to follow the temporary 40mph instruction.
Construction of the first homes at Chilmington Green is well underway, where 5,750 houses will be built by 2030.
Hodson Developments is in control of the first phase of the giant housing estate plan, which council bosses say will create more than 1,000 jobs over the next 20 years.
A planning application for the first 346 properties was submitted in 2017 and work began earlier this year.
Kent County Council has been contacted for a comment about the speed limit signs.
