Ashford: Warnings over slow traffic on A20 due to M20 closure for bridge works

Motorists are being warned of delays due to the planned weekend closure of the M20 near Ashford.

Traffic is reported to be slow with congestion to the A20 bothways near Sellindge.

It comes after Highways England has closed the motorway between Junctions 9 and 11 to install a bridge as part of the new Junction 10a, set to open in September.

Highways England says a clearly signed diversion London-bound is in place throughout the weekend via M20, A2, M2, A249.

The diversion coastbound is via M25, A2, M2, and M20.

Motorists are advised to refrain from using sat-navs while on the diversion route.

Long delays were experienced earlier in the month when the same stretch of road was closed..

Drivers found themselves stuck at temporary traffic lights installed outside a new Taylor Wimpey housing development.

Junction 10a project manager Tom Selby says Highways England has listened to concerns raised during the weekend of January 12 and 13.

He said developers "should be relaxing" the temporary lights for the closure, allowing for the west gyratory bridge to be put in.

The east and west bridges will form the two sides of the new junction roundabout, carrying traffic over the motorway.

The M20 is expected to reopen at 6am on Monday.
