A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital following a crash involving a car that closed a major road in both directions.

Chart Road in Ashford was shut by police following the incident near the Matalan roundabout.

A witness said the crash happened on the railway bridge next to the former Chart Leacon rail depot, and drivers were being diverted via Leacon Road as a result.

The ambulance service confirmed paramedics were in attendance.

A police spokesman said: “Officers were called to the scene at 3.56pm.

“Patrols and paramedics attended and the road was closed while the motorcyclist was treated for injuries.

“He has been taken to a local hospital for further medical attention.”

The road was reopened at around 7.10pm.
